Orkney Food Waste Prevention Week

Orkney Food Waste Prevention Week - Monday 22 - Friday 26 January 2018

In Scotland, we throw away nearly 1.4 million tonnes of food and drink every year. That’s a lot of waste, and a big waste uplift bill. When you also consider the energy and money that went into growing, transporting, storing, and serving this food, the true cost is staggering - every 180-litre bin of food waste thrown away actually costs £200.

Latest research shows that Scotland can reduce the amount of food we throw away by 75%. Taking action will not only help you reduce waste. It can also cut your costs and boost profits - without impacting on your customer service levels.

Resource Efficient Scotland (the Scottish Government programme delivered by Zero Waste Scotland) has teamed up with Orkney Islands Council, Orkney Zero Waste and Orkney Food and Drink to bring a week of free local training and learning events. Taking place from 22 to 25 January, there are lots of fun, interactive and educational events happening.
