SUMMARY:STA x HotelPartner Webinar: Driving Success in Scotland's Hospitality & Accommodation Sector
DESCRIPTION:The hotel market in Scotland has seen mixed performance this year\, driven largely by an increase in supply in the capital. While Edinburgh remains a strong market\, the growth in hotel stock — alongside a noticeable slowdown in the domestic audience\, greater price sensitivity\, and a reduction in short-term let accommodation — has created tougher year-on-year comparisons. Other regions across Scotland\, however\, have continued to perform well\, supported by steady demand and major events such as Oasis and AC/DC shows bringing strong peaks in occupancy. \nInternational investors continue to be attracted to the country and are driving an exuberant transactions market\, which is set to grow further this year and is seen as a focal point for significant capital deployment. \nWhile the outlook for the strong pipeline of hotels remains positive\, particularly in the luxury segment\, the industry faces a series of headwinds\, including the confirmed tourism levies in Edinburgh (5% for all bookings made for stays from July 2026 onwards\, for reservations made from 1st October 2025) and Aberdeen (7% from April 2027)\, as well as an ongoing skills shortage. These factors are placing pressure on profits and Scotland’s ability to remain competitive as a leading tourist destination. \nThe Scottish Tourism Alliance (STA) is delighted to once again be partnering with HotelPartner\, a trusted market leader in revenue management and distribution services for the hospitality and tourism industry\, to explore the solutions available to Scottish hoteliers to ensure that the market can continue to thrive. \nWhether you operate a luxury hotel\, a budget accommodation\, a boutique property\, or a youth hostel\, this webinar will share accessible and actionable advice on tackling challenges such as the skills shortage\, optimising performance\, and making the most effective use of technology in your operations. \nDiscussion Points: \n\nWhat factors are driving the growing interest from investors in the Scottish hotel market?\nWhy is the sector attracting so much capital\, in what segments and is it sustainable?\nWhat is the current outlook for hotel development in the country and how will this affect performance?\nHow can hotels manage their performance as supply booms and investors demand continued strong performance?\nHow might the upcoming 5% levy on overnight accommodation\, due in January 2027\, impact hotel profitability and tourist demand?\nIn what ways is the ongoing skills shortage affecting Scotland’s competitiveness as a tourist destination? How can they be addressed using technology?\nWhat role does technology play in addressing wider operational challenges?\nWhat are the core components of an effective revenue management strategy in today’s Scottish hotel market?\nHow can hoteliers drive demand?\nWhat metrics should hoteliers track regularly to ensure revenue management and distribution strategies are effective and agile?\n\nSpeakers: \nRobert Holland\, Managing Director UK & Ireland\, HotelPartner Revenue Management \nHotelPartner are a technology enabled outsourced revenue service which started in Switzerland in 2006 and now has circa 500 clients across Europe but primarily in Switzerland\, Germany & Austria. SUMMARY:South of Scotland Destination Alliance (SSDA) Package Travel & Linked Travel Arrangement Compliance Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Package Travel & Linked Travel Arrangement Compliance: Join Our Exclusive Webinar on Package Travel Regulations \n In a busy tourism industry\, staying abreast of regulations can be challenging\, do you know if the current regulations affect you\, or how proposed changes may open up new opportunities? If you are offering add-on and extras\, the regulations may affect you.   \n That’s why we invite you to an essential webinar on Package Travel & Linked Travel Regulations\, featuring insights from industry experts Matt Gatenby\, Senior Partner at Travlaw\, Erika Miller\, Package Travel Lead and Andrew Powell\, Package Travel Advisor from the UK Government’s Department for Business & Trade.  \n  Date & Time: Friday 1st December at 13:00hr  Book Here: LINK   \n Why Attend?  \n\nCurrent Regulations Decoded. Explore how these regulations could directly affect your business operations. From booking processes to customer communications. \n\n\nInsights from Travlaw: Matt Gatenby\, a leading authority in travel law\, will dissect the proposed changes to the existing regulation.  \n\n\nGovernment’s Call for Evidence: Get a first-hand account from Andrew Powell and Erika Miller\, representing the UK Government’s Department for Business & Trade. Understand the current call for evidence on Package Travel Regulations and learn how your input can shape the future of industry compliance. \n\nBOOK NOW! \nWhat are the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 \nThe Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 provide consumers with protections for two types of holiday booking – packages and linked travel arrangements (LTAs). Packages are formed of two or more elements (such as transport and vehicle hire) made under one booking. The Regulations place requirements on package holiday organisers\, including that they will be responsible for the performance of all elements that make up the package.   \nAn LTA is formed when a looser connection of travel services is purchased in relation to the same trip. The regulations require businesses to make clear at the time of booking whether an LTA is being purchased and what protections are associated with it.  Travellers who purchase LTAs do not benefit from the same rights that they would do if they bought a package. For instance\, there is no requirement for any one party (such as the trader that facilitates the LTA) to be liable for the performance of all the travel services that are part of an LTA. This reflects the nature of an LTA as a looser booking of connected services.    \n The Department for Business and Trade launched a twelve-week Call for Evidence on the Package Travel Regulations 2018 on September 20th 2023\, open until 13th December 2023. Please see Press Release and Package Travel Call for Evidence.  \n  The Call for Evidence tests whether existing regulation is proportionate and effective. We are seeking views on the scope of the rules\, including whether the same protections should be in place for international and domestic holidays and whether a minimum cost threshold for the rules to apply would make the regulatory burdens more proportionate.  We are also seeking feedback on areas where the regime could be clearer\, such as by changing the approach to currently named “Linked Travel Arrangements” and how other tourist services form part of a package. Throughout the Call for Evidence\, we are inviting views on how the rules have operated across the last five years\, particularly through the Covid pandemic. This includes inviting views on whether reforms should be brought forward so the rules can work better for consumers and businesses when there are extreme extenuating circumstances.    \n Looking forward to engaging with you on this\, and if anyone wants to reach out to us outside of the Webinar they can contact us on PackageTravel@businessandtrade.gov.uk

SUMMARY:Taking charge of your utility strategy
DESCRIPTION:From redundancies to reduced hours\, rising energy costs continue to have a severe and significant impact on tourism and hospitality businesses. \nWith limited support available from the UK Government’s new Energy Bill Discount Scheme (EBDS) and a huge number of businesses out of contract\, it’s difficult to know what action to take next. \nThe Scottish Tourism Alliance (STA) is partnering with leading utilities management company\, eyebright\, to deliver a free online webinar to offer clarity and ultimately empower businesses in the sector to take charge of their energy strategy. \nWhether you’re an SME or a large\, multi-site business\, this event will debunk the myths around utilities management and the new EBDS\, highlight opportunities businesses may be missing to save energy\, and offer information and advice to confidently make choices about your utility strategy going forwards. \nAs well as hearing from business owners who are successfully navigating and managing their utilities\, there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions\, both anonymously ahead of the event and during the session. \nWe look forward to seeing you there. \nJOINING THE EVENT \nJoining instructions\, with a link to join the webinar\, will be shared with attendees a week before the event. \nIf you have any questions which you’d like to be discussed as part of the session on the day\, please email these to communications@stalliance.co.uk by Monday 8th May 2023 at 3pm.
