“The STA Board and team are delighted that Stephen Leckie has been appointed as the new Chairman of Visit Scotland.
Stephen brings with him not only a profound passion for Scotland’s tourism industry and a deep understanding of the businesses that operate within it across all sectors, but an inspiring strength of vision which will guide Scotland to unlock its potential to become the global leader in 21st century tourism.
The STA has been extremely fortunate to have had Stephen’s passion and expertise in stewarding the organisation in his role as Chairman for more than 12 years. On behalf of the Board and team, I thank him for his dedication and commitment to elevating the STA to become what is now the foremost body representing tourism and hospitality businesses in Scotland.
This marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Scotland’s tourism industry and we must look to continue to strengthen and deepen understanding and collaboration between our private sector, public bodies and governments to ensure that Scotland remains a top global destination.”
Scottish tourism has come a long way over the past 12 years and achieved many important milestones under Stephen’s Chairmanship of the STA.
Through his guidance, we forged a strong, cohesive and hugely talented Board, representing all sectors and geography within Scotland’s tourism sector. Under Stephen’s stewardship, we launched two national tourism strategies that steered our industry towards delivering ambitious vision and success over many years, throughout many extraordinary challenges.
His legacy at the STA is one of a remarkable leader with boundless ambition, energy and passion for Scotland’s tourism industry with unwavering dedication and strategic vision.
As we reflect on his contributions, we recognise that Stephen has not only been a leader but also a mentor and inspiration to many within our sector.
In accordance with the STA’s Articles of Association, we will seek interest in the role of Chair from the existing Board and announce Stephen’s successor later in March, marking the end of Scottish Tourism Month 2024.
We look forward hugely to work alongside Stephen and the VisitScotland Board and team to deliver the tourism strategy vision of Scotland being a leader in 21st century tourism and a first-choice global destination for travellers.
I wish Stephen all the best in this new chapter; I know that he will continue to inspire, galvanise and strengthen our tourism industry with his exceptional leadership.”
