Industry Update: Profile of Modern Apprenticeship Employers report published
The first Profile of Modern Apprenticeship Employers report has now been published.
The report is the first publication of in-depth research conducted by the Skills Development Scotland (SDS) to better understand Scotland’s Modern Apprenticeship (MA) employers though linked SDS and ONS datasets.
Key findings from the report include:
-Hospitality Modern Apprentices make up 8.5% of all MAs in Scotland
-There are 1.388 Hospitality MAs in training.
-MAs make up 3.3% of the total hospitality/tourism workforce.
-Over half of all MA employers were in three of Scotland’s largest employing industries:
Construction (26% of MA employers).
Wholesale, Retail and Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles (15%). Around half of MA employers in this industry were in ‘Repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles’.
Manufacturing (10%).
-Around 9 in 10 MA employers were Small to Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs).
-MAs play an important role in enterprise productivity. This research found employers with a higher proportion of MAs in training relative to their total workforce tended to be more productive.
