Industry news: The Caravan and Motorhome Club is expanding its touring network

The Caravan and Motorhome Club is expanding its 5-pitch touring site network in Scotland.

The Caravan and Motorhome Club has the largest network of privately owned, small 5 pitch touring sites in the UK. These sites are called Certificated Locations (CLs) and are for the exclusive use of Caravan and Motorhome Club members for leisure purposes only.

The Caravan and Motorhome Club is an exempted organisation under the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act, 1960. We are able to issue annual Certificates to landowners to operate these small 5 pitch touring sites. CLs do not require a site licence or formal planning permission to have up to 5 touring vans on land that is Certificated by the Caravan and Motorhome Club.

The Club’s aim is to expand our network of over 2,300 CLs by offering landowners the opportunity to diversify and set up their own private site making good use of their land. This will not only earn extra income for the landowner but will help to bring in welcome business to support local communities, reduce administrative burden on local authorities and help to accommodate the hundreds of caravans and motorhomes that visit Scotland each year, reducing the need for wild camping and so, preserving the land for many generations to come.

CLs can be on a farm, smallholding, on spare land next to a pub, golf course, hotel, private houses or even Council land where someone lives on site.

For a standard CL, landowners would need to provide:

  • Level land of half an acre or more to accommodate the full 5 pitches
  • Safe access for caravans and motorhomes
  • Safe drinking water and a grey water disposal point
  • A chemical emptying point for caravan waste
  • A bin for dry rubbish
  • Public Liability Insurance
  • Continuous Club membership whilst operating the CL (annual subscription of £56.00 for 2022)

What benefits would landowners get by setting up a Certificated Location?

  • Access to the UK’s No 1 Touring Club and its 1 million members
  • Simple process for members of the public to join the Club if they wish to stay on a CL – https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/membership/
  • Landowners can choose their own pricing, whether they wish to be a seasonal or open all year site and what facilities and services they wish to offer
  • Keep 100% of the income
  • Landowners get their own advertising page on the Club’s website, on our UK sites app and a highlighted entry in our bi-annual handbook
  • Enhanced marketing of the CL on our website including a link to landowners’ own website pages or Facebook page and other member benefits
  • Say hello to members on our online forum
  • Use available support from head office and our local CL advisers
  • Easy online application process
