Industry Update: Clayton hotel races to support industry charity

Clayton Hotel Glasgow City recently hosted a successful “night at the races” in the grand ballroom which is situated in the original Custom House building dating back to 1840. The event was attended by over 100 guests and the night proved to be great fun for all who attended whilst also being a fantastic fundraising night for the charity too.

Hospitality Health, the Scottish charity dedicated to improving health and wellbeing in the hospitality & tourism industry, was the chosen charity partner for the event (along with Leukemia care)

Hospitality Health was founded in 2018 with a mission to change the way the industry thinks about mental health. Its Wellness Charter award recognises businesses which are putting the right steps and mechanisms in place to support the mental and emotional wellbeing of their staff. It also fully funds staff to attend Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)certificated training.

The Hospitality and Tourism sectors have sometimes been associated with unsociable hours and pressures on work-life balance and Hospitality Heath believes that recognising and understanding emotions of staff is essential for employers to better look after their team.

The charity seeks to provide employers with the tools and skills to bring about positive change by putting support in place to help staff experiencing mental ill health, by providing access to assistance and by challenging any associated stigma.

Speaking at the cheque presentation, Hazel Galloway, GM of Clayton Hotel said, “it is so pleasing that we raised such a great amount to support Hospitality Health. The work they do in raising the need for wellbeing in the industry is so important. The staff at the hotel have also benefitted from the funded training to become Mental Health First Aiders which is such a huge benefit to our wider team.’’

Gordon added: “This is an amazing amount to have been raised and we are delighted with the partnership that has developed with the Clayton hotel. Hazel and the team are so supportive. What we are trying to achieve with Hospitality Health is to equip the hospitality & tourism sector with the right tools and mental health first aid training to not only address mental health but to put staff welfare first.
