Alex is responsible for growth of Whitbread’s property estate via the acquisition and development of new Premier Inn hotels (including hub by Premier Inn) and Whitbread’s restaurant brands in the UK and Ireland.
An architect by training, Alex joined Whitbread in 1996 and moved into a property-focused role in 2000, working on household leisure and restaurant brands such as Costa, Pizza Hut, TGI Friday’s, Marriott, David Lloyd, Café Rouge and Bella Pasta.
In 2006 Alex took on responsibility for the construction of the newbuild Premier Inn and hub by Premier Inn estate and in 2021 was appointed UK Development Director, leading a team of 24 people and managing an annual budget of between £300-£400m capital expenditure.
In his Head of Development role Alex is ultimately responsible for the acquisition, design and construction of new Premier Inn and hub by Premier Inn hotels and affiliated Whitbread restaurants in the UK and Ireland. He is a spokesperson for the business on property and construction issues and sits on several property and construction industry groups.
