Alex is a partner at Johnston Carmichael and, throughout her career to date, has gained extensive experience in undertaking tax planning, to include business structuring and succession planning for family owned businesses in Scotland.
Having been brought up on a farm in Northern Ireland, Alex has seen first hand the importance of taking time out as a family to reflect on the business and how best to structure the underlying farm income alongside the other diversified activities. It is often a fine balance to juggle the commercial, tax and most importantly the family dynamics in ensuring whatever structure you use, it’s the best structure in the round for your own family circumstances.
Alex is an invited member of NFU Scotland’s Legal & Technical Committee and also sits on the Private Client Tax Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland. A regular writer and speaker on tax matters for the individual and family business, Alex unwinds with her favourite past time of cooking, listening pod casts from back home and more recently some cycling.
