Director of Strategy and Policy Impacts - 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships
With a strong track record and a career spanning over 25 years with some of Scotland’s leading leisure and sport organisations, Craig is regarded as one of the countries most experienced and accomplished sports management professionals. Craig spent his early career within the hospitality and commercial leisure industry, before moving into sports management and senior leadership roles within local, regional and national organisations. Prior to joining the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in April 2021, Craig was Chief Executive at Scottish Cycling (the national governing body) for the past decade. Under his leadership, the organisation and sport successfully undergone transformational change resulting in significant growth in membership, participation and commercial revenues as well as developing a club and talent system that continues to deliver sustained medal success from Scottish athletes on the world stage.
The 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships have big ambitions to not only deliver an outstanding mega event (combining 13 separate UCI World Championship disciplines) but to also celebrate the unique power of the bike and all it can bring to our everyday lives. Craig’s priority is to lead to coordination of a One Scotland approach for cycling in collaboration with Scottish Government, national agencies, local authorities and wider stakeholders across six priority areas; participation, sport, transport, tourism, industry and events. Not only will the Championships provide a global opportunity to shine a spotlight on Scotland and the UK, but it will provide a unique platform and catalyst for positive change before, during and after the event for decades to come. Craig is a vocal advocate with a huge passion for cycling and how physical activity and sport more generally, can make a positive contribution to people and wider society.
