Contract Post: 500 hrs per annum/approx. 1½ days per working week

We are looking for a dynamic, energetic person with a solid background in Business Development and Marketing to join our small friendly team.

Sail Scotland is entering an exciting period as the organisation gears up to support the sailing, cruising and boating industry as it emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic. We have a full website upgrade in the pipeline and launch of a new Digital magazine and aim to run an innovative national campaign over 2021/22.

Our membership includes Charter, Cruise Holiday, Marina Boatyards & Moorings, Sailing Schools, Sailing Experiences, and Trade Suppliers and as such, Sail Scotland has the widest reach of any membership organisation within the Scottish Marine Tourism industry. Sail Scotland has, over the past year, played a pivotal role in the representation of our industry during the COVID-19 crisis.

The ideal candidate will be expected to hit the ground running. Main responsibilities will include actively contributing to growing our membership, managing and developing existing membership relations, optimising social media presence, producing and updating content on the Sail Scotland website and assisting with the production of digital communications for the organisation such as e-newsletters.

The successful candidate would ideally be experienced in working with or in business membership organisations, ideally in tourism. We would also welcome job share arrangements with other sector groups, DMOs, Chambers or TBIDS.

The post reports directly to and will work closely with the CEO and offers the successful candidate a great deal of opportunity to grow and develop the role in the future.

Job Responsibilities:

• Manage and improve two-way communications and relationships with membership.
• Retain current and recruit new members.
• Manage timely collection of subscription fees.
• Develop a membership social media feature programme that will profile and showcase membership services to consumers and potential customers.
• Work with members to help them to improve their website listings and profiles on the Sail Scotland digital channels
• Develop membership recruitment and onboarding materials.
• Support content build for member and consumer e-news.
• Contribute to development of new corporate membership propositions.
• Enhance B2C communications through more direct engagement with active consumers, responding to consumer posts to develop a conversation agenda.
• Refine and manage core database of industry and consumer contacts.
• Contribute to development of evolving administration systems, including WordPress CMS, HubSpot and other web-based e-commerce plugins.
• Unlock full potential of new business, membership and web-based administrative tools.

Business Development Manager Qualifications / Skills:

• Advanced digital marketing skills and solid background in social media management.
• Proficiency in using WordPress (if unfamiliar with WordPress, proficiency in other CMS tools will also be considered.)
• Experience of using basic image editing and manipulation software.
• Ability to create eye-catching digital posts using resources held in Sail Scotland’s stunning digital image library.
• Experience of image library housekeeping and management.
• Experience of working with extensive database lists
• Knowledge of Scottish tourism business, sector or destination networks.

Terms of Contract

This is a contracted post for 500 hours per annum, to commence mid-May. Average working week will be based around 1½ days per week with hours per month being flexible to suit seasonal and personal requirements. Contract rate is £22.00 per hour.

The post will be a home-based remote working position. Applicants must have effective digital communications connectivity and be comfortable working remotely. Sail Scotland will supply access to 365 Hub and web-based management systems. The successful applicant may be required to travel to businesses based around Scotland’s coasts and islands.

Sail Scotland will provide a contract for services with the contractor being responsible for all personal HMRC and PAYE liabilities.
