Press release: The Inverness Big Hospitality Recruitment Drive Serves Up Success
A campaign to recruit over 100 hospitality roles in the Highlands has resulted in more than 45% of vacant positions being filled.
The Inverness Big Hospitality Recruitment Drive was created to support local hotels in response to staffing shortages faced by the industry in the North due to the impact of COVID and the tightening of the labour market.
The campaign, organised by the Highland Hotels Association in partnership with Skills Development Scotland (SDS), Department of Work & Pensions, JobCentre Plus, Developing the Young Workforce Inverness, Inverness College UHI, Highland Council, Springboard and Highlands & Islands Enterprise set out to showcase the exciting range of opportunities on offer and challenge perceptions of what it’s like to work in the hospitality industry.
With roles to suit candidates from all walks of life, hotels from around the city took part in a variety of activities to promote their vacancies, including a recruitment fair, Open Doors Days and School Lunch Time Takeovers at Culloden and Millburn Academy.
Emmanuel Moine, Chair of Highland Hotels Association and GM of Glen Mhor Hotel and Apartments said: “The recruitment campaign was very helpful. Not only to find staff, but also to show the public that hospitality is buzzing, it offers fantastic opportunities for everyone, and that hotels are great place to work.”
The recruitment drive activity was also picked up by STV News and the Inverness Courier among others, emphasising that the industry in Scotland is booming once again, with vacancies available at all levels, including full time, part-time, evening and seasonal work.
Vice chair at Highland Hotels Association and GM at Courtyard by Marriott, Ina Davis said: “The Highland Hotels Association have been delighted with the overall response to the recruitment campaign. The campaign was initially conceived following a meeting with SDS and a subsequent ‘emergency’ meeting. As part of the de-brief, we have committed to continuing with the schools programme twice each year and casting the reach to all secondary schools in the Highlands. This has been a very positive and successful collaboration and we would like to thank our partners for all the energy and hard work to get us to this stage”.
