Scotland’s Food Tourism Action Plan & Upcoming Events
How your business can harness the potential of Scotland’s £1bn food tourism growth ambition?
The Food Tourism Scotland Action Plan, a joint initiative between Scotland Food & Drink, the Scottish Tourism Alliance and the Scottish Government was launched last year by the First Minister to bring Scotland’s food and drink and tourism sectors together to capitalise on the growing demand for destinations to offer “quality food and drink, with clear provenance and real, memorable experiences”.
Measures in the plan include:
- The creation of a food tourism apprenticeship programme
- Supporting the top 100 visitor attractions achieve ‘Taste Our Best’, our quality assurance accreditation scheme promoting local sourcing
- Improved marketing for food and drink tourism
- Creating the next generation of agri-tourism monitor farms to stimulate diversification
- A further programme of Showcasing Scotland events – bringing regional buyers and suppliers together
You can read the Food Tourism Scotland Action Plan here and get involved immediately by engaging with some of the initiatives happening over the next month.

Scotland Food & Drink Fortnight
Visitors not only want to experience local provenance during their visit to our destinations, they want to know the story behind where the food comes from and the people who produce it.
Scotland Food & Drink Fortnight will take place between 31 August and 15th September – your ideal opportunity to take part in the nation’s biggest food and drink celebration, fuel the demand for local produce by showcasing the companies, brands and people who are championing our country’s larder and offer Scotland’s visitors that quality food and drink experience that they seek from as part of their tourism experience.
We would encourage everybody to get involved in the online chat by posting engaging content which gives an insight into you, your business and your people.
The dedicated hashtags #ScotFoodFort19 and the @scotfooddrink Twitter, Instagram and Facebook can be used to link content and further promote all the activities taking place throughout the Fortnight.
